A consequence is an effect or a result of an action that precedes it. Often the word is used to convey the idea of a negative effect as in the consequences of breaking the law that requires punishment. In logic and philosophy, a consequence is a necessary conclusion or inference drawn from preceding information. It would be the conclusion of an argument.
