Prostration is the act of physically lowering one’s body, often putting the head to the ground, before another person or thing. It is an act of submission where power and/or authority is submitted. In religious contexts, prostration often occurs before images and/or icons in various churches such as Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox.
