Qumran

Qumran is an area just north east of the Dead Sea and about 10 miles south of Jericho.  It is where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found and is also the ancient location of the Essenes.  There is a complex of buildings that have been excavated at the site in the early 1950's.  The site was probably occupied from around 200 B.C. to 100 A.D.
