Eternal conscious torment does not benefit God nor the one being punished.

by | Oct 13, 2018 | Annihilationism, Minor Groups & Issues

The problem with the idea that eternal conscious torment does not benefit God or the one that God punishes is that it mistakenly assumes there must be a benefit to God and to those punished. Furthermore, I have not yet heard what the conditionalist means by benefit.  Without a definition, how can we address the issue? Nevertheless, I’ve only heard this objection raised once, if I remember correctly, on a social media website. Other conditionalists present did not address the issue. They let it ride.

Nevertheless, though I think knowledgeable conditionalists would not use this argument, for those who do, it is a weak position to hold since what is meant by benefit is not defined, and it falsely assumes, without biblical proof, that there must be a benefit to both parties.

So, this is another objection raised by some conditionalists that has no merit.
