THREE WEEKS TO GO
The CARM convention is getting closer and things are moving along fine. Donations for the radio spot are coming in, about $300 so far. Thanks a bunch for all your support. A second spot will be released soon and I'll put a link to it on CARM and in the next newsletter so you can hear it. Here's the first one: http://www.carm.org/audio/carm1.wma (Windows Media Player) or http://www.carm.org/audio/carm1.rm (Real Player) to listen. If you want to donate anything to help out the ministry and/or the radio spots in particular, please send any donation amount you want to CARM, P.O. Box 995, Meridian, ID, 83680. Please mark your donation for the radio spot if you want to help out that way. I will collect all the radio spot donations and send a CARM check to the radio station.
For more info on the CARM convention go to www.carm.org. On the right side is a link in yellow that says, "CARM CONVENTION." Just click on it and you can have regular updated information. Hotel and Restaurant info will be linked shortly.
JUST FOR CLARIFICATION
Periodically, I find it necessary to tell people that CARM is not a big organization. Emails frequently come in asking me to thank the staff. Well, CARM doesn't have a staff or an office anywhere. In reality, it is run by one guy, me, out of a spare bedroom in my apartment (that I call my office) after I get home from work. Of course, the goal is to move this into full time and get a staff which is slowly happening. CARM has the potential for being a big help to hundreds of thousands of Christians out there and is greatly appreciated -- as the thousands of supportive emails have informed me. I do all the writing for CARM as well as design, fix, and maintain the entire website. It is daunting; but I love doing it.
In addition, I must clarify that there are a couple people who help answer the multitudinous emails I get each day and several people help moderate the more than 30 discussion boards located at http://www.carmforums.org/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi. So, even though CARM began as a one-man show, it is growing and is in need of others to help maintain it. That is a wonderful problem to have as it approaches the 2 million visitor mark.
So, if you feel led to help out with getting this to full time status, please consider it. The only way I can go full-time is if people like you support it financially. If you could spare $5 a month deducted from your credit card and if you also want to help out CARM because you think it is worth it and have benefited from it, then please check out the donations page at http://www.carm.org/goods/donations.htm. If enough people signed up for just $5 a month, I could do this full time, start to work on a staff, and produce another book. Praise God.
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
Since I told you about CARM, I figured a little bit of info about myself might be helpful as well.
I was raised in a non-Christian home, was mixed up in the occult for a while, got tricked into being saved at 17, backslide for a year, then got yanked back in line by the Lord. This yanking set me on the path to do hundreds of hours of beach evangelism, a 2.5 year stint doing a swapmeet ministry passing out Christian info, a phone ministry to the cults, graduation from a Christian college, then Seminary, six years of prison ministry, two years Christian radio, authoring a book, and almost 7 years on the Internet.
Initially, after graduating from seminary, I did two years of internship as an assistant pastor at a church and then was the senior pastor at a small church for a while. Things didn't work out due to a difference of opinion on the spiritual gifts. My denomination said they had ceased. I said they hadn't. We shook hands and went our separate ways. Entering back into the ministry proved too difficult financially since I could not afford to intern in another denomination for another year or so before a pastorate opened up. You see, interns make about 45 cents an hour (just kidding, but you get the point). With a wife and kids to support and debt from trying to live while previously being an intern, I had to start working in the secular field in order to make ends meet -- and that is where I have been ever since. Providentially, God invented the Internet just so I could have something to do. I really thank Him for it and CARM is where I minister now.
SHORT BIBLE LESSON - WHAT IS THE TRINITY?
The word "trinity" is not found in the Bible, but the concept is. All cults deny the Trinity. Christians claim it is true. But, what is it? Is it an office held by three gods (Mormonism) or a pagan concept borrowed from ancient cults (as the Jehovah's Witnesses teach)? The Oneness Pentecostal believers teach that God is not a Trinity but is really one person who takes three forms. So, which of these is true? None.
The Trinity is the doctrine that there is only one God in all creation, all time, and all places. This one God exists as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person is not the same person as the other, yet there are not three gods, but one.
The Bible has many references to a plurality concerning the nature of God's existence. Consider the following verses as an example: Gen. 19:24, "Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven." Notice that the Lord rained FROM the Lord out of heaven. Amos 4:10-11 says, “I sent a plague among you after the manner of Egypt; I slew your young men by the sword along with your captured horses, And I made the stench of your camp rise up in your nostrils; Yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the Lord [YHWH]. 11“I overthrew you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, And you were like a firebrand snatched from a blaze; Yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the Lord." Notice here that the Lord is talking and says, “I overthrew you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah." Sometimes when I show these verses to Jehovah's Witnesses (without saying anything else), they often respond with, "Are you trying to show me the Trinity?" I then say, "You got the Trinity out of that? Wow!"
In the New Testament there are several verses that show God's plurality. Here's two. Matt. 28:19, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit," Note that there is one name and three persons. Also, 2 Cor. 13:14, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all." These kinds of verses, and others (see http://www.carm.org/doctrine/trinityplural.htm for more) are part of the means by which the doctrine of the Trinity is derived.
When we "theologians" use the word "person," we are not saying that God is three individual beings walking around who are actually one being. That would be a contradiction. Instead, we define a person as having self awareness, identity, can speak, love, grieve, etc. These are attributes of personhood and we see all of these attributes, and more, in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. If you want to see a chart that exemplifies this, go to http://www.carm.org/doctrine/trinity.htm and look around.
The Trinity is a very important doctrine within Christianity. It is the correct view of the Godhead and needs to be affirmed by Christians. Of course, the cults deny the Trinity, often misrepresent it as teaching three gods, or that it is an office, etc. But the truth is that the Trinity doctrine is derived from Scripture and is unique to Christianity.
Finally, the Trinity is important because only in the doctrine of the Trinity can we have the true incarnation of God (the Word become flesh as the Son - John 1:1,14). Only the God-man Jesus can offer a sacrifice sufficient to appease the infinite Father in heaven. No mere man can do this. No mere angel. Instead, God the Word, in His grace, added to Himself human nature (Phil. 2:5-8) in order to bear our sins in His body on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24) so that He might become sin on our behalf (2 Cor. 5:21). This way, He atoned for our sins by the shedding of His blood (Heb. 9:22) and guaranteed that all who trust in Him will receive everlasting life (John 3:16). Because of what Jesus did on the cross, we might then have eternal life that is received by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8). Amen to that!

VERSE OF THE WEEK.
“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world," (NASB).
