Phil. 3:9, "and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith."

The words "not having a righteousness of my own derived from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ" are some of the most important words in all of Scripture. For in them we see salvation, the deliverance from the righteous judgment of God. We see the righteousness of Christ given to us by faith. We see the comparison of righteousness derived from our actions contrasted with the righteousness obtained through Christ.

The last part of the verse says that our righteousness comes from God. What is righteousness? In the context of the verse, it is a condition of being legally right before God. This aspect of the legality is crucial for us to understand. Sin is the breaking of the law of God. Sin brings the righteous judgment that the law requires. God says in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death. Therefore, the law requires judgment when broken. Since we are all sinners and since we want to escape the judgment of God for breaking his law, we need to become righteous before God, the lawgiver.

There are two ways to achieve righteousness with God. The first, is by keeping the law perfectly and the second is by freely receiving the righteousness of Christ, by faith. I'll go with the latter.

Jesus both fulfilled the law perfectly (demonstrating his own righteousness) and bore our sins in his body on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24). So, in Christ it is said that we have our sins removed through his sacrifice and in addition his perfect obedience of the law is reckoned to our account. In other words, he takes away our sin and gives us his righteous. This is why Phil. 3:9 is so important. It tells us that the righteousness we have is not ours, but Christ's.

Some questions for you.  Do you really understand and fully accept your complete inability to satisfy the law of God?  Do you completely receive, by faith, the righteousness of Christ?

Remember, we receive Christ and his work by faith, not by faith and remaining obedient, not by faith and baptism, not by faith in anything we do.  It is by faith alone that we receive the righteousness of Christ.

If you have, in any way, sought to maintain your righteousness before God by being good, then you need to repent for such a sin and rely completely, by faith, in the work of Christ.

  • Shelley from North Carolina is coming to visit us from April 1st through the 8th. Her interests lie in increasing women's ministry opportunities.  Of course, she holds the biblical position that women are not to be pastors and elders.  But, she and I both agree that women are undervalued and underappreciated in the church.  I've always been interested in how women can be used to promote the gospel, to elevate the church, and to equip Christians.  This is her burden and I completely support her in it.  So, she is going to come here to check this out.  Please pray for her in this ministry.  Perhaps God will put us together to do greater things.
  • It looks like the debate with the secular humanist will occur on April 29, 2009, at UCLA and Southern California.  This date has not been made official yet, but it is the date they requested and to which I have agreed.  The debate topic is:  which is superior as an ethical system, Christianity or secular humanism?  They're also talking about having another debate at the University of California in Irvine.  And, they mentioned a possible debate here in Boise, Idaho.  I don't know what will happen with these possibilities.  I'll let you know more later.
  • We are now looking for office space.  I'm amazed when I think about how CARM began.  I remember asking my wife back in 1995 it was okay if we budgeted a little money for me to get on this new thing called the Internet.  Once on, I found out how bad some of the articles were regarding Christianity and the cults.  I thought I could do better.  Now, 13 years later CARM gets about 37,000 page views a day.  We have been working out of a large upstairs room in my house but at the rate things are going, by the end of the year we will be forced to get an office.  One of the options were looking at is to have the CARM ministry by a house.  That way, we could house guests, have plenty of office space and, hopefully, use one room for video shooting.  We're still in the early stages of research but praise God that we have such a problem.

I thought I would list the needs that CARM has.  It is important to you let you know what we are doing and what direction we hope to go.  Please pray for CARM.  Seriously, please pray for CARM.

Family Home Course Beta Testers I have just begun working on a family home course to be used at the dinner table after dinner.  It is simple.  The goal is to have a notebook with one to two hundred pages of lessons that a family goes through at their own pace.  Each lesson builds upon another so that at the end, the kids have been exposed to biblical theology, history, logic, apologetics, etc.  It will be designed to be repeatable at different levels.  With so many loosing their faith, I figured I needed to do something about it.

So, I'm asking for volunteers to beta test.  This would mean downloading and printing up pages and actually using them at the dinner table.  You then, at your leisure, would email me what you think, points that weren't clear, things that worked, suggestions, etc.  I want constructive criticism on how to make it better as well as at-a-boy's on the elements that are good.

If you're interested, then go to http://www.carm.org/more-stuff/about-carm/family-home-course and signup.   From

I have spent the past few weeks feverishly working on the translation section of the CARM website.  I have been continuously adding to our Spanish and Indonesian sections of the CARM website.  If you look under the languages tab, you will notice the increase in information under those two languages.

I really have a big burden to reach the Portuguese people with the gospel.  As some of you may know, Mormonism is growing rapidly down in Brazil.  We have some Portuguese content on our website, but not nearly enough.  If you are fluent in Portuguese or know someone who is, please let us know.  We definitely would like to reach out to the Portuguese speaking people.

Please Support CARM If you like what CARM does and want to support it, we have some options.   WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

Logos Bible Software< Would you like to support CARM but also get the best Bible research program out there?  If you're serious about studying the Bible and want what is, in my opinion, the best Bible program available, then get Logos Bible Software.

  1. You win because Logos will give you 25% off if you go through CARM.  Just click here: http://www.logos.com/carm
  2. CARM wins, because Logos will donate a portion of every sale back to CARM.
  3. Logos wins, by spreading the Word, making more sales, and getting more people into better Bible study.

By the way, I've used various free software programs.  They work, but none of them approach the quality and depth offered by logos.

Please, please, prove me wrong. Tell me that I don't understand what you are saying and that you are right. If you do, I will know 100% that you are a self-indulged person that doesn't know the first thing about the teachings of God, Christ, or any Prophets of old. On the other hand, if you don't reply with some retorich, I will know that you are to weak minded in the knowledge of Christ our Savior and his teachings. Good luck. Charlie
    • Mr. Slick: Your lack of response tells me you are a man of little character. You said in your video that you are not looking down from your "ivory chair",but in fact, that is what you enjoy the most. Looking down on people and telling them how bad and wrong there are must be great when you can avoid including yourself among the "evil" people for acts you have also committed. It makes me think that I should join a religion so I can have the same shield as you that allows me judge others, but protects me from the same punishment that "non-believers" receive. I guess your religion also teaches you that you are never wrong and that there is no need to defend the obvious hypocritical statements that come from your mouth. Or maybe, just maybe you really think that killing a fetus is not really murder as you suggest it is. Thank you for reading my mail. robert
