Newsletter 05-22-09

  • Networking.  If you go to the CARM homepage and look on the right hand side, you will see a new block called "networking". We have links to YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. You can check them out if you want.
  • Articles.  Finally, I've been writing articles again. If you again go to the CARM homepage and look in the middle column you will see a "What's New?" section.  Click the link and that's where you can find a list of the new articles.
  • MP3's!  I've been recording some audio readings of articles and linking them to those articles.  It'll take a while before I get "smooooooth" at reading them, but it's going okay. Anyway, if you want to hear a sampling go to and check out the articles on The Shack, Atheism, and the ELCA.  Each has an mp3 audio link at the top of the article.  Let me know what you think.
  • Home page.  Moved the "What's new" from the right of the home page to the middle and will use it as a micro-blog to keep people informed on what is going on with CARM.
  • Home page.  Added a "Today's Bible Verse" to the right column of the home page.  We will put up a Bible verse that will change daily.
  • Prayer Support:  If you would like to pray specifically for CARM then please check out
  • Hover Ad.  We are developing new technology for hover ads on the CARM site.  Please be patient with us as we work out the bugs.
  • Ryan has been working on the new format for the online schools which will be released very soon.  It looks like its ready.
  • CAMERA.  I have a question about a video camera.  CARM already has two basic, low end, video cameras that are about three years old.  They use mini-dv tape and are sufficient to get the job done.  However, this requires that once we shoot something, we have to rewind the tape and then play it at normal speed into our computer.  This effectively doubles the work time necessary to produce every video.  So, I've been doing some casual research on cameras that are high enough quality, have a boom mic, and have a hard drive as a storage feature.  That way, we could download the files onto the computer in a minute or two.
So, I'm asking for some input.  Does anyone out there have a good recommendation of a good camera.  Or, is my idea a bad one?  I'm totally open to suggestions.
  • Icons:  Can someone please send me transparent gifs of the networking icons on the home page along with the Logos Bible software image?  For the life of me I can't get the transparency effect to take.  I know how to do it but for some reason it isn't working.  So, a little help?
  • Feedback. If you've got feedback on the CARM site, ideas, anything, please contact us.  We want to hear your ideas!

    About Volunteers and help needed.

  • I very much appreciate the volunteers who want to help out at CARM.  However, I've become disillusioned with them.  I've noticed, and I don't want to sound like I'm whining, but volunteers are long on desire, and short on delivery.  So, if you want to help out at CARM, please don't contact us unless you're very serious.
  • We need a tech person to come along side CARM and help us implement stuff such as drupal modules, ftp work, php modifications, etc.  We already have one person, but we need one more.
  • The Magento shopping cart issue still isn't resolved.  We are looking for someone who knows it well enough to be able to devote maybe an hour or two to teach me how to do some of the finer details.  Please contact us at [email protected] you're interested in helping.

From Ryan Turner

It has been about a month since we last sent out a newsletter.  A lot has been happening at CARM. Matt and I just got back this past Sunday from Southern California where we spent eleven days visiting friends, relaxing, and...yes...working.

On our way down to California we stopped in Salt Lake City.  And, yes, you guessed it, we had to go find some Mormons to talk to. Matt, myself, and a few others, went down to Temple Square in Salt Lake City last Thursday to do some street witnessing. It was certainly an exciting experience as we were able to pass out literature and lovingly share the gospel with various Mormons and non-Mormons.

I still have been busily working on the new CARM online schools.  I have been redesigning their format so that there is much more interaction by way of multiple choice questions, matching, etc.  This will allow for students to get graded for their work.  Also, I think that it will be more motivating!

Also, I still have been adding articles to our foreign language sections on CARM.  Recently, we have received help with Chinese translations from our good friends at You can see some samples of their excellent work at:  We will be modifying that section as time passes.

I will actually be travelling to Charlotte, NC to visit family and friends.  I will be there until May 25th.  I also plan on attending a series of class lectures by William Dembski at Southern Evangelical Seminary ( on Intelligent Design from May 11th through 16th.  If anyone is interested in getting together while Iam in Charlotte, please just drop me an email at [email protected].

    • You certainly are Biblically ignorant. Are you planning on flying out of here in Satan's Rapture? I suppose you think the fakes like Tim Lahaye and John Hagee are right.
    • Matt Slick, I recently watched some of your debates with atheists regarding TAG and the existence of god. I was wondering where you learned how to debate?  Because I have to say, you got destroyed by both Matt Dillahunty and Edwin Kagin!!!  I have never heard a debater claim victory during a debate like you do on so many occasions.  Asserting something does not make it true!!  I'm convinced you know your arguments ********, otherwise there would be no point for the childish assertions.  So going by what you said that something is either physical or conceptual which one is god?  What's the matter *************? Steve
    • I started browsing your site and became interested in what I "perceived" to be information that was very informative and educational. However, much to my disappointment after reading your opinions about Roman Catholicism I realized that not only was this an anti Catholic site but also came to the realization that the information given out here was horribly "bias" like your opinions on the Catholic Church. Do you realize it is against scripture to put down and mock any Christian religion. To do so is the work of Satan. Ken

    • Hi there, I know that you probably receive many emails from people and you can't possibly respond to all of them.  I just wanted to say thank you for the information you have posted about Mormonisn on your site.  After 42 years of being away from the Mormon church my Dad has begun attending services again.  As a true believer in Jesus Christ I have found much help in witnessing to him through information on your website. If you are able would you please pray for him, his name is Dick and for me as I witness to him. There are no other Christians in his life other than me and as you have probably already figured out the deception/brain washing of Mormonism runs deep in a person's soul.
I will continue to share information from your website along with the true inspired word of God.  In Christ, Julie
    • I just wanted to take a sec to say thank you to you guys, I especially appreciate your Religious Movements section which has helped me defend Christianity against powerful movements like Mormonism, I can't send my Mormon friends to most sites to refute their claims since most sites slander and ridicule them.  I have a special place in my heart for this
deceived movement, and I love that I can send them to without being afraid of them getting scared off before they get Christ’s message.  Max
    • Hi!  I just came across your site.  I am a Muslim living in Pakistan.  I just want to say to Matt Slick and the other CARM members that your site is very respectful of other religions and your questions to Muslims and other religions/sects/cults are put across clearly/succinctly and respectfully.  I wish we had more such people in all major religions of the world.  Best wishes, Sami
    • I just finished watching the entire debate between you (Matt) and Mr. Kagin, and I want to say thank you.  I am a baptist minister in the south, and I spend quite a bit of time working on apologetics. I work full time as a chaplain at a gospel rescue mission, and I get a lot of the questions that you handled.  Your handling of the questions was thorough, and Scriptural, and your opponent's "refutations" of your stance and arguments was pretty sad.
Thank you so much for doing what you do. I will add you to my church's prayer list, that you would speak the Truth of God's word to a lost and dying world. Thanks Matt.  Pastor Rob
    • Thank you, Mr. Slick, for your website. CARM has proven a wonderful resource; one I find myself visiting often. While I know you receive much attention for your debating skills, I feel that your sense of humor is woefully under appreciated. I got a huge kick out of your "Pick An Insult" page. You have a wonderfully warped sense of humor. It strikes me as funny
that I have been using your website as an online apologetics tool for over a year, but it's only after I found the "Pick An Insult" page that I felt compelled to express my appreciation. Keep up the good work, and never lose that funny bone.  In Christ, Matthew
