What do deists believe?

by Matt Slick

Deists believe in Deism, a position that God, who is without beginning or end, created the world, set it in motion, but is not involved in the world.

Deists like to say that their religion is natural--not revealed. In other words, they derive their beliefs of morality, God, truth, purpose, etc., not through any direct revelation of God, i.e., the Bible, but through observation of nature and their use of reason. This would negate the idea of the Bible being inspired of God; and it would certainly deny the incarnation, death, burial, and resurrection of God in the person of Jesus.

Deists affirm personal responsibility and positive choices and reject negative attitudes and ideas.  Some even claim religions are the reason for the problems in the world.  They also say that God is a “universal creative force which is the source of laws and designs found throughout nature.” 1
