What is theism?

Theism is the position that there is a god or gods who created the world and have interacted with it, in various degrees, ever since.  Monotheism is the belief that only one God exists.  Polytheism is the belief that more than one God exists.  Deism is the position that God exists, but God is not involved in the world. Pantheism is the position that God and nature are the same thing.  There are many varieties of theism.
