by Matt Slick
On January 20, 2015 it was brought to my attention that Daniel Spratlin, a writer for CARM, had copied at least two articles from other websites and put them on the CARM website without citing the sources. He also put his own name as the author. As soon as I found out and verified this I removed all the articles that he is written from the site. They are listed below.
In an attempt to rectify this issue I called Daniel on two different days but did not leave a voicemail because his voice mailbox was not receiving messages. I also emailed him asking asking for his phone number so I could talk to him. I have received no response. I tried to contact him via his Facebook page. Again, no response. So, since I've not been able to talk to him and get his side of the story, I'm going ahead and releasing this statement on 1/27/2015. I must say that I have not heard his side of the story, but since I've tried for a week to contact him and nothing is forthcoming, it is time for me to respond publically.
Plagiarism is a serious issue and CARM in no way supports it. As the president of CARM it is my responsibility to oversee what happens under its banner. I had vetted Daniel, along with other writers, for theological and writing competence as well as their standing with the Lord. It never occurred to me to tell anybody not copy entire articles and put them on the site with their own names on it. This is such an obvious issue that I never considered mentioning it. I will from now on.
I apologize to those people who's work has been taken and placed on CARM without permission and without proper credit. I will occasionally continue to try and contact him. But for now, he will no longer write for CARM.
