Lesson 01.03

Authority, Answers

  1. What does the word "authority" mean?
Authority basically means the power and right to enforce.  For the Christian it means we have the right to be children of God (John 1:12), to teach God's word, and that we should submit to God's word.

  2. Why is the Bible authoritative?
It is authoritative because it is authored and inspired by God.  It derives its authority from God, not from men and not from the church.

  3. Why is Isaiah 55:11 important?
"So shall My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it,"
(Isaiah 55:11).  It is important because we need to trust in the authority of God's word and use it when defending and teaching the Christian faith.
