Lesson 01.06

Interpreting the Bible, Answers

  1. Why is it so important that you learn to study the Bible?
This is important because you don't simply want to be a parrot who learns and repeats what it is taught.  If you can study the Bible on your own then hopefully you will be able to teach others how to do the same thing as well as be able to figure out where someone's teaching is wrong.

  2. Can you list at least three principles of biblical interpretation?
Here are the ten that are listed.  Did you get at least three?
    1. Are there any words or phrases in the passage that need to be examined?
    2. What is the immediate context?
    3. What is the broader context in the chapter and book?
    4. What are the related verses to the passage’s subject and how do they affect the understanding of this passage?
    5. What is the historical and cultural background?
    6. What do I conclude about the passage?
    7. Do my conclusions agree or disagree with related areas of scripture and others who have studied the passage?
    8. What have I learned and what must I apply to my life?

  3. What did you think of the analysis of the verse in question?  Did it challenge you and help you learn how to study better?  If so, how?
You have to answer this one yourself.
