Can a person/baby be born with a demon?

by | Aug 31, 2024 | Demons, Questions

Can a person (baby) be born with a demon? It is an interesting question. Initially, I want to say it’s impossible, but I’m not sure that’s the correct answer. Nothing in the Bible says that a person can or cannot be born demonically possessed (Mark 1:23; 5:2; Luke 8:26–31). So, at best, I can only offer an opinion.

We know that demonic forces can possess people. Biblically, this occurs with mature individuals who have been given over to demonic work because of their involvement in the occult, drug use, sin, etc. But what about a baby in the womb? There are only two possibilities: 1) a person/baby can be born with a demon, and 2) a person/baby cannot be born with a demon. Let’s briefly examine both.

If it is possible for a person to be born with a demon

Possible reasons to support the idea of demonically possessed babies could be the occult activity, drug use, seeking demonic forces, etc., of the mother whereby she is possessed, and then, by proxy, so is the baby. But I don’t know if this is possible, though I tend to think not. However, nothing in Scripture speaks to this issue.

We know that demonic forces were able to enter swine (Luke 8:33). But these are mere animals without souls. So, it would not appear that babies could not be possessed for that reason since babies have souls and animals do not. Generally speaking, demonic forces seem to need permission of some sort or an open door to enter a person. I don’t see that occurring with babies in the womb.

If it is not possible for a person to be born with a demon

Since a baby is a separate individual from the mother, even if potentially the mother were possessed by demonic forces, it does not necessitate that a baby would then also be possessed. But, again, this is conjecture.

Conclusion

The Bible does not tell us whether babies can or cannot be born with demons. I think they cannot since, in addition to the above arguments, it doesn’t seem ‘fair’ that such a thing can happen.
