Charismatic Gifts

Charismatic Gifts

Charismatic Gifts refer to the special spiritual gifts given to the church. They are for the purpose of edifying and building up the believers in Christ. The gifts are mentioned in Rom. 12, 1 Cor. 12, and 1 Cor. 14: Word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, distinguishing of spirits, tongues, interpretation of tongues. But Romans 6:23 classifies eternal life as a charismatic gift. So, there is a total of ten Charismatic gifts given to the church by God.

Word of wisdom (1 Cor. 12:8), word of knowledge (1 Cor. 12:8), faith (1 Cor. 12:9; Rom. 12:3), healing (1 Cor. 12:9), miracles (1 Cor. 12:10), prophecy (1 Cor. 12:10; 1 Cor. 14:1, 5, 29-31; Rom. 12:6), distinguishing of spirits (1 Cor. 12:10), tongues (1 Cor. 12:10; 14:2, 13-14), interpretation of tongues (1 Cor. 12:10), eternal life (Rom. 6:23).

It is difficult to know precisely what some gifts are and how they are to be used. The context of the Bible does not tell us when it speaks of them. The difficulty occurs with the word of wisdom, word of knowledge, prophecy, distinguishing of spirits, tongues, and interpretation. They are difficult to define because they’re not defined in Scripture.
