Potential Energy

Potential Energy

Potential energy is stored energy due to its condition, not its motion. When a spring is compressed or expanded, its tendency is to return to its original shape. The energy stored in the spring that tends to have it return to its original state is called potential energy. Likewise, when a tree limb is bent down, it is under tension. That tension is potential energy that would move it back to its original state.
