|Happy New Year|
I hope you had a good New Year and a great Christmas. 2008! It sure seems like this millennium is flying by.
I have not produced a newsletter for over a month. With the holidays, getting the flu, and preparing for Washington, DC trip, I just haven't had the time or energy to produce one. So, I hope you don't mind the time since the last one.
My wife and I will be in Washington, DC on the weekend of the 25th through 27th of January, 2008. I'll be teaching at McLean Presbyterian Church and addressing the youth there:
The sessions will be open to anyone who wants to attend. After the weekend my wife and I will be seeing the sights. If you are in the area and would like to possibly get together at a local restaurant, please let me know at [email protected] and I will let you know when and where to meet. I'm thinking any evening from Saturday through Tuesday night would be good.
|Oneness Debate||The debate with the ex-oneness pastor has been off, then on, then off, and now it is on again. Instead of taking place in Mississippi, it looks like Mr. Perkins, would like to come to Boise, Idaho to debate me. But, I spoke with him this week and he now says that a lack of finances would not allow him to travel. I told him I would put a request in this newsletter asking for support for his travel expenses from Mississippi to here for two to four days. If anyone is interested, please let me know and we can hopefully, get this thing going. |
We have agreed to debate two topics on two different nights. On the first night we would debate the doctrine of the Trinity (he denies it) and on the second night the topic would be "Are we justified by grace through faith alone or not?" (He denies that we are).
Of course, the debates would be videotaped and he is already agreed to let me distribute it via CARM. So, again if you would like to support this effort financially, please contact me at [email protected]
|The Garden||A couple of years ago I had an idea to write an evangelistic-based novel that would teach Christian theology, answer some difficult questions, and provide the gospel message in a gripping storyline. I wanted to produce something that the Christian could hand to an unbelieving friend. Well, I finished it and I've released it on CARM. I had a test reading at friend's Bible study and it was received very well. If you're interested in checking it out and reading the first few pages of the book, please go to www.carm.org/index/garden.htm|
|Emerging Church||I've been doing research on the Emerging Church for the better part of a year. It has turned out to be one of the most difficult research projects I have undertaken because there is so much to read. It took longer than normal to gather the required information. I've acquired about 20 books and interviewed several emerging church pastors. I'm about ready to release the section on CARM. But please be patient because I've been getting busier and busier with various projects, emergency repairs to the site, e-mails, a radio show, and a host of other distractions that it has taken longer than normal to finish it. I hope to release it in February.|
|Video||I know I've been talking about video production for several months as well. This too was taken a lot of work and preparation. I've acquired two cameras, have gone to Missouri to meet with two video specialists, have ordered backdrops, a chroma key green screen, and have been studying framing and lighting styles. Jacob, one of the gentlemen from Missouri, will be coming out here in February to spend a week with me to teach me more about video production, lighting, etc. Our goal is to do about a weeks worth of filming on all sorts of topics. He'll do editing here with his MacBook. We plan to get stuff released very soon.|
In addition to that, Bill McKeever of the Mormonism research Ministry (www.mrm.org) will be flying up from Salt Lake City to spend two or three days with Jacob and I so that we can record a video series on Mormonism. That'll be interesting.
In all, I want to produce quality video work from CARM. Please be patient with me as I prepare for this new aspect of the CARM Ministry.
|Accountability||We are in the process of getting all the bookwork done for accounting reasons so that we can produce a financial disclosure of CARM's income, expenses, salary, etc. We want to be open and above board with everything. That distilling process and should be done in about a month. By the way, QuickBooks is an impressive program.|
|CARM Needs Staff||CARM needs staff. In June of next year Ryan Turner will be joining me for full-time ministry. He's twenty-three and will be graduating with a Masters in Apologetics. He came out here in June of this year and spent 10 days with me. He's a great guy and he understands how much CARM can do, and how much help is needed. I praise God for this young man. |
Are you interested in a ministry opportunity? I am Looking for people who don't mind working hard, who will have cultists praying against them, who don't mind facing spiritual difficulties, who will have to raise their own support, who can do research, write, don't mind learning the ins and outs of CARM, and are willing to move here to Boise, Idaho. Glamorous, huh?
I wish I had enough money to hire three people right now. I need a programmer Web person, an administrator, researchers, writers, video editors, audio editors, etc. The goals are to produce teaching materials in writing, audio, and video formats. There is so much to do and I'm absolutely buried.
I know that you might be wondering why we can't do this over the Internet. Some things can be done that way, but not everything. I need people on site. I need people to interact with, to brainstorm with, to sit with for long periods of time and train, to have them do video shoots with me, answer emails, maybe help with radio, etc. In short, I need to disciple people on how to be better apologists, how to write, and how to do everything necessary to continue this ministry and/or produce their own.
You can be male or female. You have to agree to the CARM statement of faith, and I prefer people who are educated and/or experienced in their field of expertise. But I must reiterate; this is not an easy ministry. It is time-consuming, often unrewarding, frustrating, etc. But, there are rewards. You get to know that what you produce will affect thousands of people for years to come. This ministry is a challenge and it is not for the fainthearted. Interested? If so, contact me at [email protected]
