Bruce R. McConkie (7/29/1915-4/19/1985) was a high-ranking member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormons. He was a member of the First Council of the Seventy from 1946 to 1972 when he advanced to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
McConkie wrote various books. One of his most well-known works is called Mormon Doctrine: A compendium of the Gospel, first published in 1958. The book was first received with some criticism within the LDS church. It was revised with the help of Spencer W. Kimball (the 12 President of the LDS church from 1973 to 1985) and was republished in 1966. Other works written by him are Doctrines of Salvation (1956), Doctrinal New Testament Commentary: Vol. 1 (1972), The Promised Messiah (1978), The Millennial Messiah (1982).
McConkie spoke at 69 different General Conferences of the LDS Church, along with many talks at Brigham Young University.
