The following is an examination of every occurrence of the Greek word προφήτης, prophet (singular), and prophets (plural) that are found in the New Testament. It occurs 144 times. My goal is to examine how God uses the word in different contexts. The New Apostolic Reformation, NAR, teaches that there are present-day apostles and prophets. Is that biblical?
You will notice in the table below that I offer possible meanings for each word in its context. Again, I’m not saying I’m 100% accurate in every verse. But, I did my best to let that context speak and then develop categories out of it.
