Copying, Linking, and Citing CARM

by | May 11, 2010 | CARM

Generally, CARM does not allow sites to reproduce entire articles from the CARM website and put them on their websites, blogs, etc. This is because it has a negative effect on page rankings.  If Google sees the same article on different sites, it penalizes both sites and their pages don’t rank as well in Google searches.the carm
However, you CAN use a carm article ONLY IF you put a “noindex” tag in the header of the HTML of CARM’s copied article’s metadata.  It is like this…<head>
<meta name=”robots” content=”noindex”>
<title>Your website</title>
</head>If you can insert the <meta name=”robots” content=”noindex”> into the head area of the HTML, then it is okay to use a carm article.  If you do this, you must also provide a link back to the original source on CARM.

  1. You may copy articles and place them in your church bulletins, newsletters, etc. in a non-electronic format.
  2. Quotations of CARM articles in books and magazines are allowed (and encouraged) provided the proper documentation is given.
    1. One article may be reproduced for each book and magazine.  Beyond this permission is required from CARM.
  3. You may copy parts of carm articles for use in emails as long as the emails do not end up on websites.  Again, we do not want search engines to find CARM articles anywhere except CARM.
  4. Fair use laws state that small portions of material may be quoted for documentation purposes, without written permission, but must be unaltered and accompanied by the proper documentation citing the source.

Please do! You do not need permission to link to CARM. Feel free to link to individual articles.
