Matt Slick to those who want me to respond to their responses to these articles

by | Oct 11, 2018 | Annihilationism, Minor Groups & Issues

There are a lot of articles in the section on annihilationism that cover a great many topics. I know that many of the conditionalists/annihilationists will read through them, disagree, have so-called refutations, and want me to respond to each and every comment and so-called correction that they might make. I won’t be doing that because I just don’t have the time nor the interest anymore.

I suspect that many will say that they have refuted me, that I will know they have refuted me, that I choose to ignore their responses because of it, that I can’t answer them, or that I am trying to ignore refutations and remain closed to learning “the truth.” I can’t stop them from their opinions, but I can say that I’m tired of working on this topic and have other things that are demanding my attention. Besides, dialogues have a way of expanding and taking more and more energy. I know, because of my past dealings with universalists. They too were extremely loyal to their particular dogma and were incessant in their need to vindicate and establish their view is being true. They too were persistent, never-ending, and dedicated to their position. It was not a good experience and, to be honest, I am, right or wrong, porting over some of that experience to the topic of annihilationism – because I see a lot of the same attitudes. No thanks.

Now, I’m not trying to be insulting though I suspect many conditionalists/annihilationists will take it that way. I’m just telling you my opinion and why I need to move along and focus elsewhere.

So please understand that I am not closing my eyes, plugging my ears, and don’t want to be corrected. That is not it.  Instead, at the risk of the repetitious, let me list out the following reasons why I am moving on.

  1. After a great deal of research, I’m convinced that annihilationism is false.
  2. I believe annihilationists are excessively loyal to their topic and want to be vindicated, so they will never give up.
  3. There are a lot of different opinions within the conditionalist camp, and I don’t have time to answer everyone or respond to every response, ad infinitum.
  4. I have other topics I need to work on which I have put aside for my studies on this topic.
  5. I’m tired of dealing with annihilationism.

This is not to say I won’t be modifying articles or making slight corrections here and there if and when I able to get to them. But, let me reiterate that I am tired of working on this topic as well as have a plethora of other topics to work on. I believe that if I continue to correspond with annihilationists who want nothing more than to substantiate their position, they would further drain my time and energies taking me away from other areas of study that I feel led by the Lord, to address. It is not that I can’t respond or am afraid. The truth is that CARM has other demands on my time to which I must turn my attention.

Now, let me end this article by saying that just because someone is an annihilationist, I do not believe the person is not a Christian. We all hold to some form of error, and we will all be corrected when we get to heaven. But, I’ve noticed an excessive loyalty to this topic by the conditionalists. It appears to me that many of them are far too loyal to it and identify with it and must defend it, it seems, at all costs. I’m not interested in dealing with people like that because they will do nothing but sap my energy and time. No thanks.

So, I’m done and moving on.
