All religions are different paths to the same place

by | Oct 19, 2009 | Answers for Seekers, Christian Theology

To say that all religions are different paths of the same place is logically impossible. This is because so many religions differ in so many ways that they can’t point to the same God. In fact, by definition, different religions have different gods. They cannot be the same, and therefore no matter what path any religion has, it cannot be a path to the same God because they pointed to different gods.

pathFurthermore, the God of Christianity is the only necessary and true being according to biblical revelation. He alone is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. In fact, the God of the Bible condemns the worship of any other God. Therefore, by definition, the God of Christianity cannot be the ultimate path of all religious systems since he rejects all those other systems.

If all religions are different paths to the same place, why do the paths contradict each other? Does truth contradict itself? Let’s review the teachings of just three religions:

Buddhism is pantheistic and says there is no personal God, and everyone can reach “godlikeness” on his own. Islam says that Jesus was just a prophet and not the only way to God. Christianity says that there is a personal God and that the only way to Him is through Jesus (John 14:6). If these three religions are, as you say, different paths to the same place, then why do they contradict each other? Does truth contradict itself?
