I prefer to remain open-minded about God

by | Oct 19, 2009 | Answers for Seekers, Christian Theology

Sometimes atheists say they want to remain open-minded rather than commit to becoming a Christian. But what they mean by “open-minded”? Do they mean that they want to make a decision against Christ? Does it mean to not commit to anything? When I ask atheists what they mean by this, usually it is an excuse to denying God’s existence and rejecting Christ and his sacrifice.

Too many atheists, being open-minded means to not commit to anything. But, they’re committed to being open-minded. They are so open-minded that they missed the truth of Christ and they missed the fact that they’re close-minded about being open-minded. In other words, there are close-minded in that they reject Christ and they want to use the excuse of remaining open-minded in order to continue to deny him. It’s nothing more than an excuse.

Open-mindedness means looking at everything honestly. Are you willing to do that with Christianity? Do you want to see what Jesus has said, and learn about what He can offer you?

If you say you are going to remain open-minded, and not accept Christianity, then, in reality, you are being very closed-minded. Maybe Christianity is true. Your “open-mindedness” could keep you from discovering it.
