It was God who said let there be light, and it was so (Gen. 1:3).  God created stars (Gen. 1:16) and put them in place by the utterance of his command, by the manifestation of his word.  We who follow him can recite the same powerful word that God used to bring the universe into existence.  Now, I’m not saying we create galaxies, but we do accomplish great things when we quote God’s word to people.  Think about it.  You can actually tell people the very Word of God.

This is why it is so important for you to memorize Scripture.  You don’t have to have every single word down perfectly of every verse, but you should be able to recite the word of God concerning who God is, who Jesus is, and what he did on the cross.  After all, the gospel message is the most important message there is to tell anyone.  It is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes (Rom. 1:16).  So, I’d recommend that you memorize scripture.  You might want to start with John 1:1,14; Isaiah 55:11; Romans 6:23; Eph. 2:8-9; Romans 5:1, and of course, John 3:16.

Now, I know that many of you don’t have the confidence to speak the Word of God.  Maybe you, like Moses, are not very eloquent in speaking.  Don’t worry about it.  It is not an issue of confidence or eloquence.  Instead, it’s an issue of trust in the word of our Lord.  Don’t let your concern for what your friends and coworkers might think to stop you from speaking the truth when an appropriate opportunity arises.  Instead, be concerned for what God thinks of you and let the powerful word of God accomplish what God desires.  Remember, Isaiah 55:11 says that God’s word will not come back empty without accomplishing what he desires.

Yield yourself to God to be an instrument of his word, and in the process, watch how it changes others…as well as how it changes you.  Finally, you also might want to consider memorizing one more verse, Romans 10:14, which says, “How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”
