Trust in the Lord

by | Nov 25, 2008 | Bible Devotions, The Bible

Do you know anyone trustworthy? I mean, really trustworthy, someone you could trust with your life, with your money, with your home? If you do, then you are blessed. One of the reasons you can trust another so much is because of the character of that person. You can’t trust a thief or a liar. But you can trust someone who has a track record of integrity, honesty, and faithfulness. So, in a very real sense, trust (faith) is only as good as who you put it in.

God is trustworthy. The Bible tells us to trust God. In fact, Psalm 118:9 says, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.”

While we sleep, the Lord is awake. Though we cannot see the path ahead of us with all its blessings and troubles, the Lord sees it and guides us through it with His love. Has not the Lord been ruling the world before we were born? Most assuredly, yes. Will He continue to rule it in all the future? Of course, He will. Then should not all of us Christians be trusting the Lord to rule not only this world but also our lives in the present and the future, even when things are difficult?

Faith is good when placed in the Lord Jesus. The false gods of the cults and false world religions cannot help anyone any more than the false gods of money, possessions, and power. Oh sure, we can use them to make ourselves feel better. But, the reality is that they provide temporary fulfillment, not eternal fulfillment. Nevertheless, we must realize that all of the blessings we receive are ultimately from the Lord (Matt. 5:43-48). In fact, to put your trust in anything without giving glory to God, the True God, is a waste of time since it is a temporary satisfaction.

Ask yourself this. You trust God with your salvation, but do you trust Him with the provisions of your life?

You see, we sometimes trust God for that which we can’t “see,” our salvation.  But we sometimes behave as though we don’t trust Him in our daily lives. We worry, fret, plan, whine, complain, and fearfully walk forward, all the while forgetting God’s great love and commitment to us.  It happens to us all.  But, we ought to remember that the Lord loves us in Christ, not only for our salvation but also for our daily bread.

Trust in Him and Him alone for all things. Trust Him to be faithful to you. Look to Him in all that you do and in all that you experience, even when it is difficult. Remember, faith is only as good as who you put it. Since we Christians serve the true and living God of the universe, our faith, trust, and hope in Him will not be wasted.

“Oh Lord Jesus, teach me to trust you in my daily life.  Open my heart to your loving care.  Lord, may I learn from you and seek you every day as I trust in you more and more.  I know I am saved. And, I know that you will provide and guide.  I look to you and trust you for everything.”
