Dr. Moses George has directed CARM Nigeria since 2021 where he works as a missionary. He travels regularly to very remote and difficult areas in Nigeria to teach the word of God and help local pastors and churches become devoted to sound biblical doctrines as the early church did. Dr. Moses George

Through his work, local Christian churches are being established where the Bible is the only authority that dictates teaching, doctrines, worship, and other aspects of church life. This modest effort is making a huge difference in a country where the Church is mostly detached from Bible-based teachings.

Dr. Moses George holds a Doctor of Theology degree from the Trinity Graduate School of Apologetics and Theology (TGSAT). Since 2017, he has been actively engaged as a professor at the Worldwide Evangelical Seminary (WWES), training pastors and other church leaders across Africa at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

READ MOSES’ TESTIMONIAL

Following is a testimonial about how Moses is serving the Lord in Nigeria. This includes being arrested and having an attempt on his life.

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I would like to give you a brief update about what happened to me recently while I was on the mission field in Nigeria. I traveled to the northeastern parts of Nigeria to teach the word of God and to distribute the following Christian tracts: (1) Is Islam True? (2) Is Christianity True? (3) Do Christians Have the Right to Self-Defense?

I printed hundreds of these tracts (printing was sponsored by CARM) and took them along with me to that remote and dangerous part of Nigeria. My mission was clear:  to teach the word of God, encourage persecuted Christians to defend themselves and to continue to be steadfast in their walk with God even as they suffer severe persecution from radical Islamic groups.

To put the situation in a proper perspective, there is a systematic effort to subdue and destroy Christianity in that part of Nigeria through the violent and repressive activities of Islamic groups.  Christians are not only being forced to renounce their faith, but were also murdered when they refused to do so. It is increasingly becoming very difficult to be a Christian in those parts. The wanton murder of Christians by Islamic groups has continued unabated. Being a Christian is like a death sentence. Radical Islamists see every Christian as an enemy who has not right to life.

That was the situation when I arrived in that north eastern village where I met with some Christian leaders who had fled into hiding for fear of being killed. They were visibly frightened and traumatized, but they received me warmly. I shared CARM tracts with them and together, we studied the word of God from the Bible using the tracts as guide. We studied and prayed together for three days. I will cherish those moments forever.

The CARM tract;  Do Christians Have the Right to Self Defense? made a huge impact upon these persecuted brethren. Discussing self-defense from the perspective of the word of God was an eye-opener for them. They became encouraged and emboldened when they realized that the word of God does not condemn self-defense, but encourages it. If they had made some attempts in the past to defend themselves, radical Islamists couldn’t have been able to unleash so much violence on them.  Soon, words got around about our fellowship and persecuted Christians from a couple of nearby communities soon joined us.

On the third day of my arrival, some Islamic leaders in that area got to know about the CARM fellowship. A fairly large number of radical Islamists along with seven armed policemen invaded our fellowship in the evening of the third day of my arrival. They were obviously angry and tried to kill me when the brethren escaped through different directions.

The Islamists lashed at me several times with horsewhips. They called me an infidel and accused me of engaging in activities aimed at obstructing their islamization agenda. They continued to hit me. The pain was indescribable as I started bleeding from the left side of my head. When they picked up stones to cast them upon me, the policemen who were initially hostile to me stepped in and stopped them.

In their anger, they were so uncontrollable, but the policemen were able to stop them. They dragged me on the ground to the police station. That was how I escaped death in the hands of a radical mob. They would have stoned me to death if not for the intervention of the police. God used those policemen to save me from death.  At the police station, I was accused of inciting Christians to pick up arms against Muslims. They also accused me of discrediting Islam because I distributed over a hundred copies of the CARM tract: Is Islam True?

I was detained in a very dark cell and flogged everyday by another groups of policemen who were also Muslims. I had wounds all over my body as I slept of the bare cold floor for two days without food. I became feverish. Because the policemen were Muslims, I thought that they were going to kill me, but God was on my side. He spared my life!

On the third day, I was charged to a magistrate court. Eventually, I was released on bail. After several appearances in court with my lawyer, I was discharged and acquitted. The judge who was also a Muslim said that his court was not a sharia court. Before his ruling, he read the tracts which the prosecutors tendered as evidence against me. He read them aloud in the open court and later submitted that there was nothing inciting or derogatory in both tracts from the point of view of a magistrate court.  The story would have been different, if my accusers had prosecuted me at a sharia court (Islamic court).

As I went through that ordeal, I knew that God loves me and is actively working on my behalf toward something good and beautiful (Romans 8:28).  God has used that experience to embolden  and strengthen me to reach out to  several other Christians that are being persecuted in Nigeria to share the word of God with them and to  encourage them  to rely on God, and not themselves  (2 Corinthians 1:7-9).  I am more determined to  continue to reach out to persecuted Christians and together with them, we would fearlessly tell others about Jesus (Ephesians 6:20). Thank you for supporting missionaries in Africa and elsewhere.

Blessings,
Dr. Moses George,
