Bible – False View

  • BIBLE (Correct): The Bible consists of 66 books, 39 in the Old Testament with 27 in the New Testament. The Bible is the final word of authority in all things it addresses. It is inspired and without error in the original documents.
     
  • Christian Science: The KJV Bible is used and is considered authoritative. However, it is interpreted according to Mary Baker Eddy’s understanding and is guided by her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
    • “As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life,” (S&H 497).
       
  • Islam: The Bible is corrupted and cannot be trusted.
     
  • Jehovah’s Witnesses: The Bible is inerrant. However, it has been altered in the English to suit the Jehovah’s Witnesses theological assumptions.
     
  • LDS – Mormonism: The Mormon Bible is the same as the King James Bible, but the Mormon view is that the Bible has been corrupted as their 8th article implies. Therefore, according to Mormonism, there needed to be a restoration of the truth with additional Scriptures given to correct the corruption of the Bible.
    • “We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly . . . ” (Article Eight, Articles of Faith).
    • “We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly . . . ” (Article Eight, Articles of Faith).
    • “Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written” (The Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 29:10).
    • “I believe the Bible as it read when it came from the pen of the original writers. Ignorant translators, careless transcribers, or designing and corrupt priests have committed many errors” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 327).
    • “Religious denominations relied entirely on the dead letter of the Bible for their authority,” (Joseph Fielding Smith, Answers to Gospel Questions, 1:97).
    • “There are many things in the Bible which do not, as they now stand, accord with the revelations of the Holy Ghost to me” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 310. See also History of the Church 5:425).
       
  • New Age Movement: The Bible is the religious book of Christianity that is considered a guide, incomplete, has missing books, and it has been corrupted. The Bible teaches new age principles which have been hijacked by fundamental Christians.
     
  • Roman Catholicism: The Bible is the same as the correct view of the Bible, except that the Roman Catholic Church has added several more books known as the Apocrypha.
