Goliath was a giant from Gath who fought for the Philistines (1 Sam. 17:4) and who taunted the armies of Israel for 40 days (1 Sam. 17:16).  He was around 9 feet tall, and his armor weighed about 125 pounds.  He was slain by David with a single stone and a sling (v. 49).  David then decapitated him.  Goliath was probably descended from the Anakim (Joshua 11:22).  There is another Goliath, the Gittite, mentioned in 2 Samuel 21:19-22.  He had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot.  David picked up five stones to kill Goliath, and with the first one hit its mark.  Apparently Goliath had four brothers (2 Sam. 21:19) and David was ready for them all.
