In Roman Catholicism, Nihil Obstat is a declaration that the material (usually a book or written declaration) contains nothing objectionable to the Catholic faith. It doesn’t mean that the one giving the approval of agrees with everything within the work but that the work contains nothing contrary to the Catholic faith and morals.
