Photosynthesis is the process in which living organisms, most typically plants (but also algae), use sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into organic material (i.e., carbohydrates) that is used for sustenance. Photosynthesis occurs in organelles called chloroplasts. The byproduct of this process is oxygen.
