Biblical Analysis:  The teaching that the sins of the world were passed to Jesus through baptism is false.  Jesus bore our sins in his body on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24), not at baptism.  It was on the cross that Jesus “became sin” (2 Cor. 5:21).  God does not grant us redemption based on Jesus’ baptism.  Instead, it is based on the sacrifice of Christ on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24).  Jong seems to teach universalism when he says that Jesus blotted out all sins.  This would necessitate a universalistic idea but it is not clear if he holds to this.  We are not redeemed by receiving the baptism of Jesus.  Rather, we are redeemed by receiving Jesus (John 1:12).

Christians are not “made righteous.”  Christians are “declared righteous.”  To say that we are made righteous can support the error that there is a change within us that “makes” us righteous before God.  This is not true.  The correct teaching is that the righteousness of Christ is reckoned to us by faith (Phil. 3:9; Rom. 4:5).  In other words, the righteousness of Christ is reckoned to our account.  So, we are declared righteous, not made righteous (being ‘made’ righteous is a Roman Catholic teaching).

It appears that the New Life Mission church is teaching a false gospel when it says “The only way for sinners to wash away their sins is to believe in the salvation that says the Lord took the sins of the world onto Him by being baptized by John the Baptist at the Jordan River.”¹⁰ibid..  That is a false gospel.  We are saved by faith in Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, where he bore our sins in his body on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24).
