Honesty

by | Dec 22, 2014 | Bible Verses by Topic, The Bible

A list of Scripture on the topic of honesty arranged in an outline, topical order. The Bible clearly shows us honor, its value, rewards, and applications, as well as examples of it.

  1. Before God
    1. Acts 24:16, “In view of this, I also do my best to maintain always a blameless conscience both before God and before men.”
  2. Before Others
    1. Leviticus 19:35-36, “‘You shall not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of a hired man are not to remain with you all night until morning. 36 ‘You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt.”
    2. Matthew 7:12, “Therefore, however you want people to treat you, so treat them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
    3. 2 Corinthians 8:21, “for we have regard for what is honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.”
  3. Examples of Honesty
    1. Genesis 43:11-15, “Then their father Israel said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: take some of the best products of the land in your bags, and carry down to the man as a present, a little balm and a little honey, aromatic gum and myrrh, pistachio nuts and almonds. 12 “And take double the money in your hand, and take back in your hand the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks; perhaps it was a mistake. 13 “Take your brother also, and arise, return to the man; 14 and may God Almighty grant you compassion in the sight of the man, that he may release to you your other brother and Benjamin. And as for me, if I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.” 15 So the men took this present, and they took double the money in their hand, and Benjamin; then they arose and went down to Egypt and stood before Joseph.”
  4. Financial Honesty
    1. Deuteronomy 25:13, “You shall not have in your bag differing weights, a large and a small. 14 “You shall not have in your house differing measures, a large and a small. 15 “You shall have a full and just weight; you shall have a full and just measure, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you. 16 “For everyone who does these things, everyone who acts unjustly is an abomination to the Lord your God.”
    2. Proverbs 11:1, “A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight.”
  5. Miscellaneous
    1. Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.”
  6. Rewards for Honesty
    1. Isaiah 33:15-16, “He who walks righteously, and speaks with sincerity, he who rejects unjust gain, and shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe. He who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed, and shuts his eyes from looking upon evil; 16 He will dwell on the heights; His refuge will be the impregnable rock. His bread will be given him.  His water will be sure.”
