The Bible is full of interesting patterns. Whether or not they are proof of inspiration is subjective. Proof for one person might be different than proof or another person. After all, proof is different than persuasion. Nevertheless, the following is an interesting observation dealing with the first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. We see that the Law points to YHWH, Yahweh, who is ultimately Jesus, God in flesh.
The word Torah (Law) in Hebrew is four letters תֹּורָה: Tav ת, Vav ו, Reish ר, Heh ה. We will use the letters TORH to represent the word “Law” in Hebrew which is the four letters. Ultimately, the Law points to Jesus.
Genesis, Law
Beginning in Genesis 1:1, once you find the first of the four letters Tav ת, count 49 letters to the second letter Vav ו, count 49 letters to the third letter Reish ר, count 49 letters to the fourth letter Heh ה. You get the word Torah, תֹּורָה.
Exodus, Law
Beginning in Exodus 1:1, once you find the first of the four letters Tav ת, count 49 letters to the second letter Vav ו, count 49 letters to the third letter Reish ר, count 49 letters to the fourth letter Heh ה. You get the word Torah, תֹּורָה.
Leviticus, YHWH
Leviticus – We will get back to this.
Numbers, Law
Beginning in Numbers 1:1. The pattern is reversed from Genesis and Exodus. Once you find the last of the four letters Heh ה, count 49 letters to the third letter Reish ר, count 49 letters to the second letter Vav ו, count 49 letters to the first letter Tav ה. You get the word Torah, תֹּורָה.
Deuteronomy, Law
Beginning in Deuteronomy 1:1.
The results are displayed in the table below.
Gen | Exodus | Leviticus | Numbers | Deuteronomy |
→ | → | ← | ← | |
תֹּ ו רָ ה | תֹּ ו רָ ה | “Law” does not appear | תֹּ ו רָ ה | תֹּ ו רָ ה |
TORH | TORH | HROT | HROT |
YHWH
The word YHWH in Hebrew is four letters יהוה, Yod י Heh ה Vav ו Heh ה. Start in Leviticus 1:1. Find the first letter of the word YHWH, יהוה, which is Yod י and count 7 letters to the second letter of YHWH which is Heh ה. Then count 7 letters to the third letter of YHWH which is Vav ו, and count 7 letters to the fourth letter of YHWH which is Heh ה. It spells out the name of God, YHWH, יהוה.
Genesis | Exodus | Leviticus | Numbers | Deuteronomy |
→ | → | ← | ← | |
תֹּורָה | תֹּורָה | יהוה | תֹּ ו רָ ה | תֹּ ו רָ ה |
TORH | TORH | YHWH | HROT | HROT |
The Law, TORH, points to YHWH. Also, Leviticus is the book of blood. in other words, the book of Leviticus details how blood sacrifices are to be offered. Leviticus is where we find the instruction and proclamation that sins are removed by the sacrifice of blood.
Leviticus 17:11, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.’”
Conclusion
What is interesting is that the first five books of the Bible, the Pentateuch, have an interesting pattern. The law of God points to Yahweh which is the name of God. And that is found in the book of Leviticus which details blood sacrifices. Jesus is the blood sacrifice that, according to the law, cleanses us of our sins.
