I am frequently attacked on the internet and was tickled to find this article that mentioned me in an attack on someone else. So, I thought I’d respond. The article, put out by “The Birmingham Free Press,” is located at http://www.birminghamfreepress.com/v7/metacrock.html. Here’s its opening salvo.

• “One of the most popular Christian apologetics websites on the intertubes is CARM.org. The site is run by a super troll by the name of Matt Slick. The secret of Slick’s success is that he gets on the radio and calls Catholicism a heretical non-Christian cult. This brings Catholics in droves to his forums that are set up in such a way that Slick’s followers are allowed to bully and insult all who oppose them, which gives them an unfounded and imagined confidence in their worldview.
• “This hate is not reserved for Catholics. Slick calls every Christian that doesn’t subscribe to his rather new-age version of Calvinism cultists. Non-Christians are, of course, considered straight from Hell and destined to return there.”

I’ve never been called a “super troll” before. I’m not exactly sure what that means, but I know it’s meant to be an insult.  According to dictionary.com, a troll (the noun form) has many meanings:  a song, a lure, a fishing line. I don’t think he is calling me a “super song,” a “super lure,” or a “super fishing line.” So, the one I think he wants to apply to me is either one or both of the following:

• “(in Scandinavian folklore) any of a race of supernatural beings, sometimes conceived as giants and sometimes as dwarfs, inhabiting caves or subterranean dwellings.”
• Slang, a person who lives or sleeps in a park or under a viaduct or bridge, as a bag lady or derelict.

Okay, so there you have it.  Apparently, he is calling me a supernatural being of some sort and that I probably am inhabiting a subterranean dwelling (I hope my wife does not find out about this). On the other hand, the slang version insinuates I don’t have a proper home. Since I do, that just doesn’t work.  So I’ll assume that he is saying I am a supernatural being, and since I’m a “super troll” I guess you could say I am a “super supernatural being.” Cool, huh?

So this atheist (I assume he is an atheist since he goes on in the article to talk about it) says the secret of my success is to be on the radio and call Catholicism a “heretical non-Christian cult.” Wow. Unfortunately, that’s not what I do. I say that Roman Catholicism is apostate. I do not call it a non-Christian cult. Perhaps this guy might want to listen better. As far as the forums go, both Roman Catholics and Christians are rude, as well as polite, and we try and apply the rules against such rudeness equally to both groups. We don’t always apply them properly, but we do try.

Finally, he makes the statement that accusing me of saying/promoting that “non-Christians are, of course, considered straight from hell and destined to return there.” Actually, I do not believe that they are from hell. I do believe that if they do not repent of their sins and trust in Christ as their Savior that, unfortunately, they will end up in eternal damnation. That’s my position. But they didn’t come from hell. Hell is a future place.

Anyway, I enjoyed the insults even though it was couched in some misrepresentation of my position. But still, I enjoyed it nonetheless. In conclusion, I would like to thank the Birmingham Free Press for mentioning me and CARM by name. We can always use the publicity.
