When do Old Testament saints receive glorified bodies?

by | Feb 3, 2011 | Doctrine, Questions

The Old Testament saints receive their glorified bodies at the second coming of Christ. Until then, all people who die in the faith await the return of Christ. We do not know exactly what state they are in, but we do know that there will be a resurrection where we will eternally abide in our glorified bodies. In 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 we read, “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body” (NASB 95 Update).  What this means is that when believers are resurrected they will receive their glorified bodies.  The key to answering your question then is in identifying what the Bible says about the different resurrections.

In both premillennial and amillennial theology, Old Testament saints will be resurrected when Jesus Christ returns in what is referred to as the Second Coming of Christ.  They receive their glorified bodies then.  Daniel 12:1-2 indicates this.
