What is meant by the phrase ‘the glory of God’?

by | Jun 17, 2016 | God, Questions

To glorify means to speak exceedingly well of, to tell of the greatness of something or someone. This greatness can have different characteristics depending on what is addressed.  But in Christian theology, to glorify God means to speak of His majesty, His holiness, His perfection, His omniscience, His great love, etc. It is to declare in public, or even in private prayer, the exceeding greatness of God’s character and purity. It can also mean to offer praise and adoration concerning God. One of the ways we Christians glorify God is trusting in His Word as found in the Scriptures, also by praying to Him, worshiping Him, admiring Him, and speaking words that are full of praise.

The phrase “glory of God” occurs 17 times in the New American Standard Bible.
