What are some other names for the church?

God’s church takes on a different character as we see by what manner it is referred to in scripture. So, we see that we are in the church, Ephesians 3:21, “to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.”

  • Body of Christ, Ephesians 5:22-23, “Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.”

  • City of the Living God, Hebrews 12:22, “But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels.”
  • Daughter of Zion, John 12:15, “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.”

  • God’s field, 1 Cor. 3:9, “For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.”
  • Household of God, in Ephesians 2:19, “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household,”
  • Letter of Christ, 2 Cor. 3:3, “being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of human hearts.”
