Movie Review: Civil War

by | Apr 16, 2024 | Book and Movie Reviews

The movie Civil War drops you into the middle of a military conflict, where the United States is divided and where mayhem, death, depravity, and violence coalesce into an angry lion seeking to kill. There are opposing sides, but you don’t know who’s good or bad. You don’t know which side to take. Instead, it leaves it up to you to decide who you think is on the right side – whatever side you choose. Instead, you are presented with a few journalists who are seeking to navigate through the dangers of the conflict to get to Washington, DC. Their journey is filled with tension, scenes of destruction, and a foreboding sense of the danger of meeting anyone with a gun.Movie Review Civil War

In today’s politically correct environment of leftism and woke ideology, I expected this movie to reflect such an agenda. But I was pleasantly surprised. Instead, Civil War follows those journalists to Washington, DC, to try and get an interview with the president. We aren’t told which side of the conflict or political leanings they have. We are not lectured about the wisdom of socialism, the evils of capitalism, or the necessity of woke ideology. Finally! What we are presented with is the reality of what war brings: suffering.

In America, we have tension. There’s an escalation of violence, theft, immorality, gender confusion, and the over-sensitive snowflakes who constantly need their diapers changed. Fewer and fewer people trust politicians. Fewer and fewer trust the election process. Taxes are on the rise. Our national debt is massive and growing. Our southern border is wide open, allowing foreign invaders from countries who seek the downfall of the United States. It seems that we are heading down the path of self-destruction. And because of all of this, there are a lot of people who are upset and expect civil war. I’m sure I’m not saying anything you don’t already know. But isn’t this the kind of scenario that leads to Civil War?

I, for one, do not want it. The movie presents a gritty sense of mayhem, suffering, death, and so much more. It touches a nerve. It is a sobering reminder of how bad things can get. I, for one, pray that it will not occur.

Finally, there’s cussing, and people use the Lord’s name in vain. But surprisingly, it’s not excessive. There’s no nudity or sexual exploitation. It’s a gritty presentation of what Civil War could look like. So, take it or leave it. But, I think the movie is worth seeing if for no other reason than to remind us of what war is and our need to pray for this country.
