Movie Review: Nefarious

by | Apr 15, 2023 | Book and Movie Reviews

Nefarious is a slap-in-the-face of the secular world’s self-righteous morality delivered. It is reminiscent of the Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis and exposes the diabolical machinations of evil, as revealed by the ‘supposed’ demon inhabiting Edward (Sean Patrick Flanery). He is being examined by Dr. James Martin (Jordan Belfi), a psychiatrist who will judge Ed’s sanity and determine whether or not the execution, just hours away, will proceed. But, says Edward, Dr. James will have committed three murders that day.  Sean delivers a memorable and gripping portrayal of a man tormented either by demonic possession or multiple personality disorder. The dialogue is gripping, and the subject matter is multi-faceted.  As a Christian apologist, I absolutely loved it.

A friend urged me to go see it with him. So I did. I didn’t know what it was about other than a supposedly demon-possessed prisoner. So, my expectation was that secular Hollywood would, as it always does, mock Christianity and somehow glorify evil. I was wrong.

Movie Review Nefarious

Edward teaches, exposes, mocks, and reveals so much about the world and its philosophy. In fact, Edward has information about the psychiatrist that seems impossible to know. Is he really demon-possessed, or is he just a genius at manipulation? This movie is not easy, especially for atheists, liberals, and the religiously compromising.

As a Christian, I was delighted to hear truth being portrayed in a movie instead of the Hollywood-elite’s cleverly written, self-righteous, and nefarious teachings. The movie addressed abortion – which shocked me, and it was good! It also talked about “the Carpenter” and how the demonic hoard sought His destruction, only to be thwarted by the resurrection. And it dealt with how humanity has its own morality and measures itself by itself and so pronounces itself as good. But, obviously, it is blinded by its own morals and opens mankind to be used by evil forces.

I can go on, but I don’t want to give too much away.

I hope this movie review of Nefarious is helpful. I recommend that you see it, especially if you’re a Christian. But I believe the non-Christian will complain, dismiss the movie as propaganda, and will join Nefarious in its mockery of goodness and truth.
