Before I saw the Fantastic Four movie I had read some reviews. They were all negative. So, when I went to see it I wasn’t expecting much.  To be honest, it wasn’t that bad. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t horrible. I thought the special effects were pretty good and the acting was decent. I must say that the plot was not the best and the character development wasn’t as detailed as a lot of people might like to see. But, I found myself enjoying it nonetheless. Of course, this doesn’t mean a whole bunch since I am a huge fan of explosions, chases, superpowers, aliens, and special effects. Basically, that’s what I go to see a movie for and that’s what I got here.

The back story to the fantastic four was a bit long. I found myself wishing that they would get to the point. But it wasn’t a torturous wait. My patience paid off and I was rewarded with the “scene” that gave the four their powers.  I did however like the presentation of how the four dealt with their powers when they first realized they were radically different. At first, they were terrified and it took a while to acclimate. That was pretty realistic – yeah, I know, realistic for a comic book movie.  Anyway, I enjoyed that part of the movie.

Is The Fantastic Four worth seeing? It depends on what you’re after. I suspect that my wife, who chose not to go, would not have thought it was very good.  She prefers more character development and emotional connections. There certainly was not much of that in the movie. But there was enough action. So I would give it a three out of five stars and she might give it a 1 1/2.
