Wow, what a great ride!  I kept saying to myself, “Awesome,” during several scenes in this well-done 3-D, Cinemax, audio-blasting movie.  The special effects were fantastic as in fantastic.  Do I need to tell you the plot?  I shouldn’t have to because it is, of course, about a gigantic monster unleashing his incredibly massive size, staggering power, and ominous roar upon tiny humanoids who have a great capacity for screaming and running.  But wait, there’s more.  Godzilla isn’t the only creature wreaking havoc upon the miniaturized populace.  There are two other well-deployed, havoc-creating creatures that are also unleashed upon the unsuspecting citizens of San Francisco where we are privileged to see the war between mutant mortal enemies who make a humungous mess of the Bay Area.  Fantastic!

Now, if you have read any of my other reviews on movies you know that I’m not the greatest critic. My tastes are rather mundane.  Being the science fiction nut that I am, I judge a movie by the number of explosions, special effects, aliens, monsters, car chases, and other things necessary for cinematic excellence in my world.  The plot and character development are, for me, incidentals that I must put up with so I can enjoy the majestic mayhem on a huge 3-D scale.  But, for those whose cinematic sensibilities aren’t as finely tuned as mine, let me just say that there’s minimal kissing, no nudity, a little foul language, and a slow plot development that leads up to the climactic finale of unruly monsters, lots of destruction, awesome roars, a cacophony of crashes (into buildings), lots of screaming, and a bunch of running.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  It was just fun.

So, suspend your rationality, don’t look for plot development, and go see Godzilla for the sheer entertainment value of seeing gigantic monsters fight each other.
