I know that Jesus is the foundation of our religion

by | Dec 2, 2008 | Defending the Faith, Mormonism, Apologetics, World Religions

“I am a faithful member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints and I find it very offensive of you to have an email site that tears down others beliefs . . . I would like you to be aware that we are called the church  Jesus Christ of latter-day saints because of our belief in Christ. I know that Jesus Christ died for me and I love him and am eternally grateful to him everyday of my life. I don’t think members of my church have ever persecuted any other religion Christian or not I know that I have never . . . I know that Jesus Christ is the foundation of our religion . . . I know that this website is truly the workings of the devil for only he would encourage anyone to tear down another’s belief. In the world today where faith is so important. Not the God that I know is Merciful, kind and a God of forgiveness and Love. Thank you for your time.

Joseph Smith was not a prophet of God.  He said that he saw God the Father, and the Bible clearly declares in 1 Timothy 6:16-17 that no one has seen God the Father nor can see him.   ” …who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen,” (1 Tim. 6:16).  Furthermore, the Bible sjesus foundationays that the law and the prophets were until John the Baptist (Luke 16:16).  This means that Joseph Smith was not a prophet.  In addition, Mormonism teaches that God used to be a man on another planet and that he has a goddess wife.  It teaches that Jesus and the devil are spirit brothers born in the preexistence. All of this is false.  It does not make any difference if you go to a church that has the name of Jesus on its front if it has redefined who Jesus is.

Mormonism is not Christian.  It has never been Christian, and the entire Christian Church has never nor will it ever consider it to be Christian.  You need to find out who the real Jesus is.   God is not a man from another planet with a goddess wife, and men and women may not become gods and goddesses . . . as Mormonism teaches.

Finally, does Mormonism persecute other religions?  Absolutely!  It teaches that there was a great apostasy, which means that all other religious systems are false.  After all, doesn’t Mormonism teach that it is the restoration of the true church?

  • Joseph Smith said, “My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right–and which I should join. I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong, and the personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in His sight: that those professors were all corrupt . . .” (Joseph Smith, “History of the Church, Vol. 1, page 5-6).
  • Brigham Young said, “But He did send His angel to this same obscure person, Joseph Smith jun., who afterwards became a Prophet, Seer, and Revelator, and informed him that he should not join any of the religious sects of the day, for they were all wrong.” (Brigham Young, “Journal of Discourses,” Vol. 2, page 171.–1855)
  • The Book of Mormon says, “And he said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth” (1 Nephi 14:10).
  • Joseph Fielding Smith said, “Again, following the death of his apostles, apostasy once more set in, and again the saving principles and ordinances of the gospel were changed to suit the conveniences and notions of the people. Doctrines were corrupted, authority lost, and a false order of religion took the place of the gospel of Jesus Christ, just as it had been the case in former dispensations, and the people were left in spiritual darkness.” (“Doctrines of Salvation,” page 266).
