by | Jun 9, 2016 | Islam, World Religions

In Islam, God made Adam 90 feet tall (60 cubits), told the angels to bow down before him but Satan would not was forbidden to eat of the fruit in the garden, and because of his sin was eventually banished.  Adam argued with Moses and met Muhammad.

  1. Angels to bow down before
    1. Surah 2:34, “And behold, We said to the angels: “Bow down to Adam” and they bowed down. Not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty: He was of those who reject Faith.”
    2. Surah 7:11, “It is We Who created you and gave you shape; then We bade the angels bow down to Adam, and they bowed down; not so Iblis; He refused to be of those who bow down.”
    3. Surah 17:61, “Behold! We said to the angels: “Bow down unto Adam”: They bowed down except Iblis: He said, “Shall I bow down to one whom Thou didst create from clay?”
  2. Forbidden to eat from the tree in the Garden of Eden
    1. Surah 2:35, We said: “O Adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden; and eat of the bountiful things therein as (where and when) ye will; but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm and transgression.”
    2. Surah 7:19 “O Adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden, and enjoy (its good things) as ye wish: but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm and transgression.”
  3. Banished from Eden
    1. Surah 2:36, “Then did Satan make them slip from the (garden), and get them out of the state (of felicity) in which they had been. We said: “Get ye down, all (ye people), with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood – for a time.”
    2. (Allah) said: “Get ye down. With enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood,- for a time.”
  4. Adam was made 90 feet tall, 60 cubits.
    1. The Prophet said, “Allah created Adam, making him 60 cubits tall. When He created him, He said to him, “Go and greet that group of angels, and listen to their reply, for it will be your greeting (salutation) and the greeting (salutations of your offspring.” So, Adam said (to the angels), As-Salamu Alaikum (i.e. Peace be upon you). The angels said, “As-salamu Alaika wa Rahmatu-l-lahi” (i.e. Peace and Allah’s Mercy be upon you). Thus the angels added to Adam’s salutation the expression, ‘Wa Rahmatu-l-lahi,’ Any person who will enter Paradise will resemble Adam (in appearance and figure). People have been decreasing in stature since Adam’s creation. (Hadith, Sahih Bukhari, Book #55, Hadith #543, Narrated Abu Huraira:)
  5. Adam and Moses argued with each other
    1.  Allah’s Apostle said, “adam and Moses argued with each other. Moses said to adam. ‘You are adam whose mistake expelled you from Paradise.’ adam said to him, ‘You are Moses whom Allah selected as His Messenger and as the one to whom He spoke directly; yet you blame me for a thing which had already been written in my fate before my creation?”‘ Allah’s Apostle said twice, “So, adam overpowered Moses.” (Hadith, Sahih Bukhari, #55, Hadith #621, Narrated Abu Huraira; Bukhari, Book 4, Vol. 55, Hadith 621)
  6. Muhammad met Adam
    1. Then he ascended with me till he reached the second heaven and he (Gabriel) said to its gatekeeper, ‘Open (the gate).’ The gatekeeper said to him the same as the gatekeeper of the first heaven had said and he opened the gate. Anas said: “Abu Dhar added that the Prophet met Adam, Idris, Moses, Jesus and Abraham, he (Abu Dhar) did not mention on which heaven they were but he mentioned that he (the Prophet ) met Adarn on the nearest heaven and Abraham on the sixth heaven. Anas said, “When Gabriel along with the Prophet passed by Idris, the latter said, ‘Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious brother.’ The Prophet asked, ‘Who is he?’ Gabriel replied, ‘He is Idris.” The Prophet added, “I passed by Moses and he said, ‘Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious brother.’ I asked Gabriel, ‘Who is he?’ Gabriel replied, ‘He is Moses.’ Then I passed by Jesus and he said, ‘Welcome! O pious brother and pious Prophet.’ I asked, ‘Who is he?’ Gabriel replied, ‘He is Jesus. (Hadith, Sahih Bukhari, Book #8, Hadith #345; also found in Bukhari, Book 4, Volume 54, Hadith  #429)
