Kinism is a relatively new theological movement, held by some Calvinists (though most Calvinists denounce it) that teaches that God, in the Bible, has ordained a specific means of cultural behavior that is based on same-race families, or “kin.”  It maintains that people are to be involved with, worship with, and marry people of their same kind; that is, their same race, i.e., caucasoid, mongoloid, and negroid.  Furthermore, the races were separated at the Tower of Babel (Gen. 11:9) when God confounded people’s languages and the people groups dispersed.  Some of the verses used to support their views are as follows…

• Genesis 1:25, “And God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good.”
• Genesis 11:7-9, “Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” 8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city. 9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of the whole earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

Kinism teaches that families are the core groups of society and the government is obligated to protect and promote family units.  Therefore, Kinists have strong opinions about governmental systems.

Kinists promote the idea that families should be large, extended, and interdependent.  As stated above, they are against interracial marriage and advocate intermingling only with their “own kind”; that is, whites with whites, blacks with blacks, etc.  They say this glorifies God.

“We at ******** believe that our White peoples have an inalienable, that is God-given, right and duty to seek their own prosperity and existence as distinct nations, apart from all other genetic and ethnic families…We believe the cultures of our European ancestry to have achieved a similarity which allows them to seek unity, where unity is conducive to the glorification of God,”²Note, the ***** is from an old website location that is now a porn site. Though they advocate racial segregation, they do not promote hatred toward other groups since they teach that salvation is for all, not just particular races.

“We further recognize the value, uniqueness, and preciousness of all the Families of Man to God, and their equal theoretical participation in the salvation offered by God through election.”³ibid.

They teach that Jesus is the only Savior, and with the Bible as the basis of their faith they “…believe in treating all men with decency and justice.” In addition, they advocate “Home-centered Classical Education, and the Development of the Biblical Worldview,” “Limited Government whose Law is the Law of God,” and “National Sovereignty and Secure Borders.”

Answering Kinism

Following is a very brief analysis of some of the problems with kinism.

1. Genesis 1:25 is about kinds of biological life such as cattle, insects, birds, etc.  There is nothing here about “kinds” meaning different races within humans.
2. Genesis 11:1-9, The Tower of Babel dispersion was because the people were not spreading through the earth and they were elevating themselves.  So, God dispersed them.  There is nothing in the text that shows segregation based on skin color.
3. All people are descendants of Adam, and ultimately Noah, so that all people share a common ancestor.  This means there is one race, not many.
4. Moses married a Cushite woman (Numbers 12:1).  A Cushite is an Ethiopian, a black woman.  Therefore, Moses, through whom God gave the moral law, married a woman of different skin color.  This means Moses could not have been a kinist.
5. Joseph married an Egyptian woman (Genesis 41:50).  She would have been outside the ethnic race of Joseph.  This means Joseph could not have been a kinist.
6. Kinism bases segregation, not upon belief, Christian marrying Christian, but on skin color which cannot be found in Scripture.
