Paul the Apostle was a devout Pharisee (Phil. 3:5), called Saul of Tarsus (Acts 9:11), who persecuted Christians. There is probably a reference to him in Acts 7:58, “When they had driven him [Stephen] out of the city, they began stoning him; and the witnesses laid aside their robes at the feet of a young man named Saul.”While on the road to Damascus to persecute more Christians, Jesus appeared to him, temporarily blinded him (Acts 9:8, 18),miracles performed by Paul and called him to follow Him and be His Apostle (Acts 9:15). Because of this encounter, some theologians suspect that he may have had poor eyesight (Gal. 6:11). Afterward, Paul began to preach about Jesus. He is a significant figure and wrote at least 13 epistles in the New Testament,1 where he taught theology, corrected errors, and went on missionary journeys in Asia Minor, Greece, Rome, and Macedonia (Acts 13-14; 15:36-18:22; 18:23-21:16). The early spread of Christianity. He was born Saul of Tarsus around 5 AD and was initially a devout Pharisee who even persecuted early Christians. However, according to the Acts of the Apostles, he experienced a dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus, after which he became a passionate advocate for Christianity, particularly among non-Jews (Gentiles). Christian tradition says that Paul was beheaded in Rome under the reign of Emperor Nero.
