Paltalk poster named westoftherockies condemns Matt Slick

by | Jul 27, 2013 | Apologetics, Responding to Critics

westoftherockies is a Calvinist with a huge, condemning, and accusatory attitude.  I’ve tried to be nice to him, but on several occasions, he has attacked me without reason.  Sometimes I keep notes on people who are antagonistic, and the numbered points below are those notes about him.  Afterward, I’ve copied a private chat dialogue that I had with him.  Don’t worry, I told him I was going to publish it on CARM and he didn’t say not to do so.  I underlined the places in that dialogue where I told him I was going to publish it, so you can see for yourself that he approved.  I see no fruit of the Spirit in westoftherockies.  What I do see is condemnation, anger, enmity, and disputes.  You judge for yourself as you read the dialogue.

Also, it pains me greatly to say that my oldest daughter has become an atheist.  I’ve grieved over this, especially since my wife and I raised her in a Christian home.  We taught her the gospel and I provided answers to difficult questions over the years as we would have devotions at the dinner table.  But God has not yet given her the grace of redemption.  So, I continue to love her and pray for her.  I bring this up because westoftherockies (like the atheists, Mormons, and Roman Catholics) have tried to use this tragedy to mock me, tease, and ridicule.  westoftherockies joined in this mockery – as you’ll read below.  Sad.  Perhaps he doesn’t have children and is unaware of the grieving and pain that any Christian parent would have over the spiritual loss of a child.  I don’t know.  But still, he tried to use it against me.  Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks,” (Matt. 12:34).  What is in his heart that he would seek to use a child against her parent?

“Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires,” (Gal. 5:19-24).

My notes

  1.  2/9/2013
    1. He is against Lordship salvation. On our first encounter, I went into his room.  He asked me if I approved of Lordship salvation.  I asked him if he would please define what he meant by it.  He immediately became antagonistic. I told him that different people have different views of what it is and I wanted to know what his particular view was. He then turned on me, told me that I was conspiring against him, told me that I knew what it was and that I was playing games, etc. I told him I was not playing games. I repeated that different people have different definitions and I only wanted to know what his particular view was. He ended up banning me.  He was completely unreasonable and accusatory.
  2.  6/12/2013
    1. I went into his room and he immediately started attacking me. He said that people had been telling him that I had been saying that he was teaching it was okay to sin.  I repeatedly denied that but he refused to believe me and called me a liar numerous times. I asked him if he had heard me actually say this but he wouldn’t respond except to say that his friend said it. So, he was listening to gossip.  He then recounted the conversation we had on 2/9 and said the same thing that I typed above. He again said that I was playing games. I told him I remembered the conversation and I told him the same thing as before that people have slightly different definitions of what Lordship salvation was and I wanted to know what his was. He accused me of being a liar again and again. He then challenge me to come up to the microphone and tell everybody what un-biblical things he said. I told him I wasn’t aware of any un-biblical things he was saying, but that he wasn’t treating me very lovingly. He then accused me of being a liar, etc., and threatened to ban me. I just left.
  3. 7/14/2013
    1. Called me a jerk and said I was disingenuous.
  4. 7/26/2013
    1. Without any provocation whatsoever, westoftherockies pm’d me (private message) with an attack.  I told him I would publish it (see underlined portions below).  He didn’t mind.  Notice his persistent, accusations that are without evidence.

In my opinion, Christians should avoid westoftherockies.  He is harsh, critical, impatient, rude, condemning, and shows little, if any, fruit of the Holy Spirit.  I’ve been patient with him for many months, but now I must respond.  Let his own words condemn him.  In my opinion, he has treated me as badly as the worst of the atheists on Paltalk.  He is a poor representation of what it means to be a Christian.

I have bolded the insults and accusations so you can see them more quickly.

westoftherockies: you’re lost
westoftherockies: John Calvin- “In short, no man is truly a believer, unless he be firmly persuaded, that God is a propitious and benevolent Father to him… unless he depend on the promises of the Divine benevolence to him, and feel an undoubted expectation of salvation” (Institutes III.II.16)
westoftherockies: Institutes 3.24.5. Christ is the “mirror” in which we may, without deception, “contemplate our election.” Can we contemplate our election by looking to ourselves? No. Were we to look to ourselves for certainty of our salvation, we could have no certainty at all. In fact, one would see only damnation.
westoftherockies: They tell you, if you look to Christ salvation is certain; if you return to yourself damnation is certain. Therefore, your mind must be alternately ruled by diffidence and hope; as if we were to imagine Christ standing at a distance, and not rather dwelling in us. We expect salvation from him – not because he stands aloof from us, but because ingrafting us into his body he not only makes us partakers of all his benefits, but also of himself. Therefore, I thus retort the argument,
westoftherockies: If you look to yourself damnation is certain: but since Christ has been communicated to you with all his benefits, so that all which is his is made yours, you become a member of him, and hence one with him. His righteousness covers your sins – his salvation extinguishes your condemnation; he interposes with his worthiness, and so prevents your unworthiness from coming into the view of God. Thus it truly is. It will never do to separate Christ from us, nor us from him; but we must, with both hands, keep firm hold of that alliance by which he has riveted us to himself
westoftherockies: It is impossible to believe in Jesus for eternal life and not know that we are saved. The message carries its own guarantee along with it! To doubt the guarantee of eternal life is to doubt the message itself. In short, if one does not believe that he has eternal life, he does not believe the saving message of Christ.
westoftherockies: John Calvin-Therefore, laying aside all mention of the law, and all idea of works, we must in the matter of justification have recourse to the mercy of God only; turning away our regard from ourselves, we must look only to Christ. For the question is, not how we may be righteous, but how, though unworthy and unrighteous, we may be regarded as righteous. If consciences would obtain any assurance of this, they must give no place to the law.
westoftherockies: faith is the evidence you retard
westoftherockies: justification and faith go together
westoftherockies: to be justified is to know God has justified you
westoftherockies: any time you want to debate me you let me know
westoftherockies: you’ll get crushed
Matt Slick: What is your problem?
westoftherockies: you’re a false teacher
westoftherockies: faith/assurance is inseperable
westoftherockies: you loser
westoftherockies: you’re a false teacher matt
westoftherockies: you teaches justification by works
Matt Slick: and what do I teach that is false?
westoftherockies: like john mcarthur
Matt Slick: I do? How do I teach justification by works?
westoftherockies: i just told you
westoftherockies: works plus grace= no gospel
Matt Slick: Can you show me anywhere where I teach works plus grace equals salvation?
westoftherockies: you and all the other lordship mcarthur fans are misrepresenting john calvin
westoftherockies: he NEVER taught lordship salvation
westoftherockies: you’re a fake reformer
westoftherockies: along with paradox
westoftherockies: krustbox
westoftherockies: oct31st
Matt Slick: And where have I said that I teach Lordship salvation?
westoftherockies: john mcarthur
Matt Slick: Or are you gossiping about me?
westoftherockies: john piper
westoftherockies: paul washer
westoftherockies: you are all lost
Matt Slick: So they are all lost and YOU know better than they do?
westoftherockies: Paul Washer – The Gospel is to repent of your sins and believe the Gospel.
westoftherockies: Paul Washer defines repentance as a forsaking of one’s sinful lifestyle, which he states is mandatory if one is to get to Heaven.
westoftherockies: Paul Washer – “if a believer does not turn from sin before and after he trusts Christ and does not live the “Christian life,” according to the rules then he cannot be a believer.
westoftherockies: John Piper teaches that men are justified by faith and works (by an infused righteousness) in his book “The Purifying Power Of Living By Faith In…Future Grace.”
westoftherockies: John Piper claims the Covenant of Grace is conditional. He actually claims justification is conditional. Piper then denies Limited Atonement, and claims that Christ died for all people. Piper admits he cannot understand how men are responsible–if God is Sovereign!
westoftherockies: John Marthur- “Entrance into the kingdom requires earnest endeavor, untiring energy, and utmost exertion, because Satan is mighty, his demons are powerful, and sin holds us fast” (John MacArthur, Hard to Believe, 149).
Matt Slick: So you attack everyone. I see.
westoftherockies: john mcarthur – we have been declared to be just because of our faith – from his book “justification by faith” page 13
Matt Slick: And can you quote me now?
westoftherockies: our faith?
westoftherockies: john mcarthur – the believing sinner is justified by righteousness infused into him – from his book “justfication by faith” page 122
westoftherockies: you are in the same camp as those heretics
Matt Slick: Please quote me about Lordship salvation that, according to you, makes me not saved.
westoftherockies: thats the face of lordship salvation
westoftherockies: you’re lost like they are
Matt Slick: Please quote me about Lordship salvation that, according to you, makes me not saved.
westoftherockies: you’re a heretic
westoftherockies: over and out
Matt Slick: Please quote me about Lordship salvation that, according to you, makes me not saved.
Matt Slick: Can you please prove to me, by quoting me?
Matt Slick: If not, then why do you accuse me without evidence?
westoftherockies: you teach assurance of salvation is works
westoftherockies: so you definately are a false teacher
Matt Slick: I do? Where? How?
westoftherockies: faith is the assurance retard
westoftherockies: lol
westoftherockies: you teach a person can be saved and no be sure they are justified
westoftherockies: lol
westoftherockies: the gospel comes with its own assurance to the believer
Matt Slick: Do you have a quote?
westoftherockies: so you can debate me
Matt Slick: You keep accusing me, but I don’t see any evidence.
westoftherockies: you can defende lordship salvation
westoftherockies: and i will refute you
Matt Slick: You keep accusing me over and over again, but I don’t see any evidence. Can you please provide a quote? If not, why do you accuse me falsely?
westoftherockies: so you can debate me and you can defend lordship salvation and that evidence of salvation is works or “lifestyle”
westoftherockies: and i will be happy to show how the bible doesn’t teach such rubbish
Matt Slick: You keep accusing me, yet you present no evidence. I’ve asked you repeatedly to present it. You don’t. You just keep being an accuser. I will have to conclude that you have no evidence, that you are an accuser, that you are bearing false witness, and that you spreading false things about me.
westoftherockies: you prob don’t think rahab was saved
Matt Slick: I am letting you know that I am keeping this text and may use it publically.
westoftherockies: or lot
westoftherockies: or jabob
westoftherockies: or samson
Matt Slick: If you don’t want that, you’d better stop now.
westoftherockies: you’re a heretic
westoftherockies: your life proves you’re a maggot on a dungheap
Matt Slick: Ok, so you’re an accuser without evidece.

Matt Slick: Jesus said that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Matt. 12:34). Your heart is full of accusation, false witness, and condemnation. I see no fruit of the Spirit of God in you.
westoftherockies: is all it is
Matt Slick: But I do see deeds of the flesh in you.
westoftherockies: you know what that means?
westoftherockies: what you believe you speak
westoftherockies: your fruit
westoftherockies: is what you speak
Matt Slick: Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires, (Gal. 5:19-24)
westoftherockies: you’re weak
westoftherockies: i can run circles around you
westoftherockies: you have a carnal understanding of the word of God
Matt Slick: You are causing strife, showing anger, sowing dissension, bringing faction…
westoftherockies: we are to compare spiritual with spiritual
westoftherockies: christ is fruit
westoftherockies: knowledge of christ is fruit
westoftherockies: beliving the gospel is fruit
Matt Slick: You do not show love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, or self-control.
westoftherockies: speaking the gospel is fruit
westoftherockies: you have no goodfruit
westoftherockies: its all false works gospel from you

westoftherockies: you’re like a RC
westoftherockies: who gives a hoot
westoftherockies: you’re lost
westoftherockies: maybe if you were not so legalisitic and religious you wouldn’t of pushed your daughter away
westoftherockies: obviously if you were in christ you would of been able to teach your daughter the gospel of grace instead of john mcarthurs false gospel of lordship salvation
westoftherockies: love corrects
westoftherockies: and teaches truth
westoftherockies: you are lost Matt Slick
westoftherockies: along with all the other phony reformers on paltalk
