Is it okay for a woman to use a vibrator to achieve orgasm?

by | Aug 22, 2014 | Questions, Sexuality

I don’t see any biblical reason that a wife could not use a vibrator to help her achieve orgasm while making love with her husband.  When someone loses an arm, a prosthetic is often used.  When our hearing begins to fail, we use hearing aids.  When our vision gets worse, we use glasses.  We have no problem using technology to help us overcome our deficiencies.   Likewise, I cannot see any biblical reason to deny using technology to help a woman achieve orgasm while making love to her husband.  Of course, both the husband and the wife would have to agree to using a vibrator.

There are, sometimes, difficulties sexually with which women can suffer. Many women are more affected by factors such as financial pressures, physical ailments, age, and even lack of drive. So, in the context of marriage, assistance is sometimes necessary.

Some Christians might disagree and say that it is obviously wrong since it’s not “natural.”  But neither is a pair of glasses or hearing aids.  Should we not use them since they are also not “natural”?  It makes no sense to say yes.  Also, what if the husband is suffering from impotence?  Are we to say that the wife is simply “out of luck” and has to deal with it?  If so, I would ask for Scripture to back that opinion up. But, of course, Scripture never mentions anything about using sexual aids in the manner that we’re talking about.

Nevertheless, the marriage bed is a sacred place and must be guarded.  Lovemaking between a husband and wife involves many aspects, including foreplay, kissing, talking, etc.  It often takes years to learn each other’s bodies, pleasure points, and preferences.  Also, as we get older things aren’t always as easy as they used to be.  We move slower, ache more, and sometimes complain a bit too much about how our bodies can’t keep up with what we want to do.  So it should not be a surprise that in the bedroom difficulties arise and help is needed.  Just as we use hearing aids and glasses to help us function better, it seems logical to conclude that using a vibrator is also acceptable.

So, if you’re a Christian woman having struggles achieving orgasm during your lovemaking with her husband, and if both of you agree that a vibrator is permissible, then I can see no reason to deny its use.
